The camera is not a modern invention! It was invented around a thousand years ago.

The word "Camera" comes from the Arabic word قُمرة"Qomrah" which means = Chamber.

The word is traced back to an Arabic scientist of optics. Al-Hasan Ibn Al- Haytham was the first scientist to explore the (Dark Chamber) experiment from which the modern camera was developed. Thus, the new name Camera comes from the Arabic origin "Qomrah".
